Although
many of my fans and very close friends assume that I must be a city slicker,
with my sophisticated ways and always larging it up at some illegal rave-on
or other, I have not always lived in the dynamic metropolis of Gateshead, but
am originally from Cumbria. In the olden days this was called Cumberland &
Westmorland, the same as one of my favourite sports, Cumberland & Westmorland
wrestling. It's fairly much the same as modern day WWF, except you had sequins
embroided into your y-fronts. I thought about trying it as a youngster, and
would definately have shown great promise, according to many experts. To this
day people are always asking me why I didn't take it up professionally - well
without wanting to sound too mercenary - the money wasn't good enough. I know
I will always have on my conscience, the disappointment of over 830 people,
including a lot of celebrities, who never got to join my Cumberland & Westmorland
wrestling fan club.
Cumberland
is famous for loads of things apart from Cumberland & Westmorland wrestling
- Cumberland sausages, which are rather like Walls sausages, but actually taste
slightly different - also Eddie Stobbart wagons, I just love trucks and Eddie
Stobbart wagons are in my top nine wagon companies, not just in modern days,
but of all time.
Local telly station BorderTV was the host to legendary quiz show
'Mr & Mrs' as well as my favourite 'The Krankies". King of daytime
TV Richard Madeley used to work for either Border TV or maybe Radio Cumbria.
Here he is enjoying a llama ride with me at one of Cumberland's 2 different
llama farms. Richard actually got the idea for his Ali G impression after seeing
my Frank Spencer, which includes the great lines 'Oo Betty', 'I'm free' and
'Oo Betty" again.
