I've
always loved DJ'ing - to those who don't follow the hit parade closely, it means
introducing a song and then playing it. Pro's like me make it seem easy, but
it takes a lot of skill, and for some, years of practice to get it right (although
I got to a very high standard very quickly). I can remember being as young as
15, and going round to old Aunty Betty's and entertaining her and her friends
with my DJ talents. It was a quick learning curve, and if you can please a tough
crowdlike that, you can please anyone. Most of my DJ work now is my mobile disco,
"DJ Marc's Hit Parade Hits". 14 years ago, I did a stint on hospital
radio, but was asked to leave the first night, just because I hilariously kept
switching the LP from 33 to 78 with comic effect. Well having earned my Shock
Jock reputation, I was probably blacklisted from all major radio stations. Here
I am with fellow DJ SimonBates, who I gave the Our Tune idea to. I thought it
was too poncey for someone as cutting edge as me.
If
the money and conditions were right, I would consider a slot on local radio,
although a lot of the establishment still won't touch me, with good reason -
as well as my hospital radio stunt, I was one of the first people to play "I'm
too sexy" by Right Said Fred, which I played at Aunty Betty's Golden Wedding
do. Anyway, I don't want to compromise my talent, and I've already had a taste
of the good life - check out my cool pose in the Revolution FM sponsored car.
It wasn't a bad family saloon car, but if they offered me a job, I would have
to insist on a car horn like that one they used to have on Dukes of Hazzard.
